Centre Manager at ThreeD DAC
Mike Kelly is Centre Manager at ThreeD DAC (trading as 3DWIT), a company set up in partnership with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and the South Eastern Applied Materials (SEAM) Research Centre in August 2018.
3DWIT was formed in June 2018 as a centre of excellence for 3D printing technology. It was formed with a clear remit to provide training and related services to Irish academia and industry. It also supports WIT with 3D printing courses for all levels of Mechanical Engineering students.
Prior to Joining 3DWIT, Mike had been involved with the emerging 3D printing industry for close to 25 years. In this time he has held roles in Application Development, Sales and Marketing, including customer training and support where he developed a range of EU-wide training programmes including design and use of 3D printing process.
During this time he has worked with a wide range of clients across academia, aerospace, automotive and motorsports, defence and medical device manufacturing; all related to design and manufacturing applications using best practice for 3D printing. A major part of his success in 3D printing has resulted from time invested in developing an awareness of design for the 3D printing process.
He has been actively involved in Materials (and Process) Development for 3D Printing, including ceramics and metallic powders.
Mike has also been a visiting lecturer at WIT since 2015.
