Who Should Attend?
This programme has been designed for new and existing childminders only that are Registered with Revenue to provide childminding in their own home.
Course Aims & Objectives
The main objective of the programme is to give participants knowledge that will help them to manage the business aspects of their childminding service, as well as understand the responsibilities required of self-employment.
It also introduces them to some of the key business basics that inform business decisions, helps them put in place a Revenue compliant bookkeeping system, manage their own accounts and Revenue returns, determine their best option around tax exemption.
This course is aimed at new and existing childminders who are registered with Revenue that want to:
- become more business focused in their thinking and approach,
- understand income & costs, and how to properly calculate each,
- have a Revenue compliant bookkeeping system in place,
- understand the taxation system and be in a position to make a decision around tax exemption / tax return option,
- have the learning and know-how to keep proper accounts and make their own tax returns.
Course Outcomes:
On completion of this programme it is anticipated that each participant will:
- Be more business minded in the delivery of their service..
- Know what is required to meet legislative requirements.
- Understand income & cost and know if their childminding project is feasible as a business.
- Have a Revenue compliant bookkeeping system in place.
- Understand sole trader taxation system.
- Be able to compile annual accounts and make their own tax return.

This programme has been designed to be delivered over seven weeks, one evening per week as follows:

Week 2;
- Bookkeeping for Self-employed
Week 3;
- Bookkeeping for Self-employed
Week 4;
- Understanding Tax Calculation
- Viability Analysis
- Tax Exempt / Returns
Week 5;
- Marketing
- Customer Service & Professional Service Provision
Week 6;
- End of Year Accounts – Preparing EYA
Week 7;
- Revenue Online Service – Tax returns through ROS
